What font do you most commonly use when working on your computer? Why do you tend to use the font?
--The font that I most commonly use when I work on my computer is Times New Roman. The reason that I use this font is because it is usually the default font. Also, if it is something for school, many of my professors will require that I use that font.
How does a typeface create a mood, feeling or impression? Have you had a reaction to printed media because of the type?
--I think the way something is written creates a certain mood or feeling. Using different typefaces is a way to express yourself and what you are trying to say. I do have a reaction to printed media because of the type. If something is big and bold I am going to be attracted to it and want to read it. The same thing goes for the color that may be used.
What do the following quotes mean? Respond to them:
The designer has an enormous responsibility” as the person who is “putting wires into our heads.” -Richard Poynor
--I think this means that the typeface designers job is to get us to like their typeface and use it everywhere all the time. Seeing different typefaces everywhere in everyday life, we may not realize it at the time, but subconsciously we are recognizing the type that is being used.
“Don’t confuse legibility with communication.” - David Carson
--This means that just because one can read something, doesn't mean they can understand it. It's almost like writing in another language; you can read each letter individually, but you can't make out what the whole sentence is saying.
